Am I rich?

When the Occupy protests round the world were highlighting the injustice of income inequality, many thoughtful, caring people were quietly wondering

"Am I in the 99% or the 1%?"

As we in the 1% often tend to live in our own little bubbles, surrounded by people of similar wealth, it can be easy to underestimate how fortunate we are.

Figures are hard to find, but p56 of the comprehensive Hills Report, on the Anatomy of economic inequality in the UK, (Jan 2010, UK Government Equalities office) shows that if your household owns property, investments and possessions (but excluding pensions) worth over £1.5M, you're probably in the top 1% in the UK.
